Smoke.

I know it's most likely tradition, but would it have killed someone to just walk outside every now and then and give an update on whether or not they selected a new pope? Or they could try some other things, perhaps -- fireworks, a laser light spectacular, put some chemical to make orange smoke, something. How bout a combination of all of 'em, with Dick Clark hosting the festivities? And hey, it could be like the US Election coverage, where every station has different results that they report. Yeah, that be great. "CBS News is projecting the old german guy to be the winner.", and FOX News would be all "FOX News is projecting George W. Bush to be the winner, as he is fantastic and can do no wrong." Yeah.

Anywho, the matter was settled (and fairly quickly apparently), I just think it's rediculous to have the news networks debate over what color smoke is coming out of a chimney.
